I use vegetable-tanned cow and goat leather for its natural texture and durability. These undergo a traditional tanning process using plant-based (mineral-free) tannins and natural materials.
Italian Bovine Leather
The Italian bovine leather is vegetable-tanned, smooth-grained vachetta. They are buffed and smoothed and are known for their diverse assortments of colors.
The leather I source from is a member tannery of the Consorzio Vera Pelle Italiana Conciata Al Vegetal consortium.
The chevre chagrin I use is goat leather that’s vegetable-tanned on the outermost part, with mineral tannage added for softness. It has a supple feel with a slight pebble texture.
The tannery /megisserie is part of the French Tanners Federation of which there are over 60 members.
